Functional Healthcare Analyst (Remote position)

Our client, a high profile trusted provider of information technology, systems engineering, training and professional services to customers across all levels of government and commercial areas, is in need a Functional Analyst with a background in Healthcare Terminology who will be supporting software development and patient management system for a government entity. This position works with clinicians, developers, and federal staff to review and develop code sets that support patient care.
Daily Duties
  • Uses principles involved in mapping concepts from one coding system to another, especially SNOMED CT US to ICD-10-CM.
  • Reviews scheduled version updates to coding systems (e.g. ICD-10 and CPT annual updates) and resultant implications for mapping and groups of codes.
  • Uses current knowledge of relevant technologies to develop and maintain groups of codes that are used for disease management and other functions.
  • Develops and executes test cases for the release of terminology updates, after performing quality review of those updates.
  • Analyzes user needs to determine functional requirements for a wide variety of projects.
  • Performs technical assessments aimed at improving client systems.
  • Performs functional allocations to identify tasks and their inter-relationships.
  • Researches, identifies, and recommends resources required for task execution and completion.
  • Performs functional modeling based on requirements analysis.
  • Develops new systems or updates existing systems to meet client needs.
  • Serves as technical advisor to clients in assigned subject areas, recommends functional changes, and identifies areas for further investigation.
  • Generates recommendations in the form of technical briefings, reports, and other major documents provided to senior level client personnel.
  • Consults with clients to determine optimum design for assigned projects.
  • Identifies emerging relevant technologies that may result in improvements to current processes and systems.
  • Writes and updates project documentation including system procedures, presentations, and training materials.
  • Provides guidance and work leadership to less-experienced analysts, and may have supervisory responsibilities.
  • Participates in special projects as required.
  • Use advanced Excel skills to create and maintain code sets.
  • Responds to inquiries from the client, clinicians, field personnel, developers, and other customers.
  • May serve as technical team or task lead.
  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant technologies and subject areas.

  • 5+ years of related experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, professional training, or work experience.
  • Professional coder certification (e.g. CPC from AAPC or CCS from AHIMA) highly desirable.
Must be familiar with:
  • Coding systems: SNOMED CT US, LOINC, RxNorm.
  • Medical documentation requirements (provider documentation to allow compliant and optimal coder results).
  • Electronic Health Record processing.
  • Healthcare industry claims processing (e.g. submission to CMS).
  • QA Initiatives from CMS, to assist in determining necessary steps for compliance on behalf of customer.
  • SQL is highly desirable but not mandatory.
