Utility Data Analyst Contract Length: 12 months + potential extension Location: Dallas, Texas – Hybrid (3 days onsite downtown Dallas)

Our client is seeking a Utility Data Analyst to support their Advanced Metering System (AMS) operations through data collection, analysis, and reporting. This role is responsible for obtaining and interpreting various data types including meter asset, communication, energy, event, and customer service data to generate insights, reports, and dashboards that drive system performance, root-cause analysis, and operational improvement.
The analyst will work closely with cross-functional teams to support AMS performance metrics, maintenance activities, and exception reporting. The position requires strong analytical skills, comfort with technical tools, and the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
Qualifications:
Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree in statistics, mathematics, engineering, computer science, or business administration strongly preferred, depending on experience level
7+ years of business analytics or data analysis experience
Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Access, SharePoint)
Demonstrated proficiency in data analysis, reporting, and advanced analytics tools
Proficient with SQL for querying and managing data across databases
Experience in data analysis, modeling, and reporting from complex enterprise systems
Familiarity with statistical analysis tools such as SAS, SPSS, or equivalent technologies
Strong experience with reporting and visualization platforms (e.g., Power BI, Tableau)
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to communicate complex data clearly
Familiarity with Python, R, Hadoop, and data science libraries preferred
Experience with task automation using Python and tools like Selenium
Experience in Agile environments or software testing/project management
Strong communication and leadership skills required
Ability to meet defined performance metrics, including timeliness, accuracy, and cost efficiency
Effective collaboration and communication with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders
Contribution to continuous improvement initiatives and alignment with overall business goals
Key Responsibilities:
Collect, analyze, and interpret AMS-related data to support operational and performance needs.
Design reports and dashboards to analyze meter processes, system synchronizations, and data quality across systems such as the customer information system, asset management system, and mobile workforce tools.
Monitor daily and interval energy data, meter communication events, and service order fulfillment using both relational and time-series databases.
Identify root causes of meter equipment failures and provide data-driven recommendations for corrective actions.
Collaborate with stakeholders to improve data collection and analysis processes and suggest new data sources or enhancements.
Deliver data visualizations and reporting for internal teams and leadership using reporting and BI tools.
Build analytical models that support decision-making and performance monitoring.
Perform basic validations for market exceptions and ensure synchronization across enterprise systems.
Document data methodologies and assist with knowledge sharing across teams.
Receive direction from technical leads and operate both independently and collaboratively within project teams.
