Location: McAllen, Texas – ONSITE


Are you a visionary leader passionate about transforming transportation systems? Do you excel at coordinating large-scale projects and fostering partnerships? Our client in the Rio Grande Valley has retained our services to find an Executive Director to steer the future of transportation planning for the region. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead multimodal transportation initiatives, ensuring they meet federal standards and serve as the primary forum for regional transportation discussions.

Education:
  • Master’s degree preferred in transportation planning, public administration, urban planning, or related field. Bachelor’s degree acceptable with additional experience.
Experience and Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of transportation planning and administrative experience
  • 7+ years of managerial/leadership experience
  • Previous experience in an MPO (Metropolitan Planning Organization)
  • Proficient in urban and multimodal transportation planning including knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations
  • Strong technical report preparation and presentation skills
  • Excellent communication skills, especially in public speaking
  • Ability to foster collaborative working relationships
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) communication skills are desirable.
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Leadership & Management: Provide strategic leadership and guide transportation planning and programming efforts.
  2. Policy Development: Formulate goals, objectives, policies, and procedures to deliver comprehensive transportation planning services.
  3. Budget Administration: Develop and manage the MPO budget, including securing funding from local, state, and federal sources.
  4. Collaboration: Foster cooperative policies and plans reflecting current and future transportation needs
  5. Public Outreach: Engage with the public and various government levels to promote MPO goals and activities.
  6. Compliance & Coordination: Ensure adherence to applicable laws, policies, and procedures while coordinating activities with external organizations.
  7. Staff Development: Promote a positive work culture, oversee staff performance, and facilitate professional growth opportunities.
