Technical Writer – IT Security
Location – Austin, Texas (Remote work but must be located in Texas)
Contract position – 12-18 months

We are seeking a strong Technical Writer for our direct State client in Austin, Texas to develop comprehensive technical product documentation for their cybersecurity group. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in technical writing and experience in producing detailed programs and end-user documentation with appropriate visualizations, including tutorials, user guides, troubleshooting manuals, and reference manuals.

Experience Required:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, communications or related subject
  • 5+ years of experience in Information Technology
  • 3+ years technical writing with cybersecurity governance, risk assessments and NIST framework
  • Knowledge of Texas State Government structure and the Texas Legislative process
  • Some knowledge of the Texas Cybersecurity Framework, Texas Administrative Code 202, or the Texas Controls Standards Catalog
  • Experience writing in a standard writing style, such as APA, MLA, or CMS.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with people of all technical levels
  • Ability to explain abstract concepts and technical terms to different audiences
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio, and SharePoint) and Adobe Acrobat Pro

Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for all phases of document generation including research, writing, customer verification, incorporating updates and delivery
  • Develop and maintain standard operating policies and procedures (SOPs) and other technical documents
  • Coordinate meetings and collaborate with internal subject matter experts to collect and interpret input
  • Review requests, plan and organize projects accordingly and report on progress to leadership
  • Ensure compliance with all Federal, State, and agency laws, rules, policies, and procedures
  • Develop documentation that meets client-side specifications and standards
  • Gather and document staff feedback on draft documents and incorporate user-requested changes as directed by the supervisor
  • Communicate effectively and collaborate with individuals of all technical levels in a team environment
  • Ensure documentation is accurate, clear, and accessible to users of varying technical expertise
