Mainframe Natural Programmer Contract Opportunity: 12-18 months Location: Remote, USA** (**must be physically located in the US in order to telework)
We are looking for an experienced Mainframe Natural Programmer. This role requires strong proficiency in the Natural programming language and extensive experience in mainframe systems. As a key contributor, you will support development, architecture, and overall administration for projects and mainframe operations, leveraging your problem-solving skills to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
Minimum Requirements:
8+ years of experience as a Mainframe Developer/Programmer Analyst with expertise in Natural programming
8+ years of TSO/ISPF, JCL, and DB2 Familiarity with VSAM files is also preferred
4+ years of experience with database management systems (IBM Data Studio, Squirrel)
4+ years of testing experience
Demonstrated foundational experience with large-scale, complex mainframe production systems
Extensive hands-on experience in the design, implementation, and production support of applications
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for working in a global environment
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to prioritize tasks based on business impact and urgency
Experience performing application support tasks, including systems support, security reviews, and maintenance
Quick learner of new technologies and methodologies
Excellent experience creating project documentation, such as technical specifications, process workflows, and database record/field specifications
Strong background in troubleshooting and resolving incidents in the Mainframe environment
Key Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and maintain Mainframe Natural programs and JCL to meet project and operational needs
Collaborate with project and operations teams to conduct analysis and produce documentation in a cohesive manner
Adhere to change control processes and procedures as defined by the agency
Interface with business and IT teams to understand business requirements and translate them into technical specifications and application code
Identify opportunities for automating existing manual processes through data integration between mainframe and external systems
Work closely with IT support teams to ensure successful development and implementation of support and project requirements
Develop and execute unit and system test plans to validate that application changes meet technical specifications
Manage the full System Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
Assist in developing test plans and executing test activities to ensure new programs meet business requirements and function correctly
Review documentation and perform quality assurance to ensure compliance with program requirements and procedural standards
Maintain a reliable work schedule, with flexibility to work outside normal business hours when necessary to support operations or urgent tasks
