Oracle Database Administrator Location: Dallas, TX - Hybrid 2-3 days onsite per week Contract Position: 12months (+extension or conversion)
We’re seeking a skilled and proactive Oracle Database Administrator (Logical DBA) to join our client’s high-performing data team. The ideal candidate will have strong Oracle and SQL Server expertise, solid scripting skills, and experience supporting large-scale data environments.
This role is more than just execution. We really need someone who asks the right questions, contributes to decisions, and collaborates cross-functionally to maintain clean, optimized, and governed data systems. You’ll support enterprise-level Oracle, Exadata, SQL Server, and emerging MongoDB environments across ODS databases and data warehouses. Key areas include query optimization, scripting, security, and long-term data governance. The team is fast-paced, collaborative, and values curiosity, ownership, and problem-solving. New team members should expect a steep but rewarding learning curve, gaining hands-on experience with real-time data, scripting, governance, and cross-functional collaboration in a dynamic hybrid environment.
Qualifications:
5+ years of hands-on physical/logical DBA experience in Oracle, SQL Server, and Exadata environments
Strong experience supporting large-scale data environments (80–150 TB), including data warehouses and ODS databases
Demonstrated ability to ask critical questions and engage as a problem-solver, not just a task executor
Proficient in Shell scripting (required); scripting for retention, automation, and monitoring is essential
Strong understanding of performance tuning, partitioning, and optimization techniques
Familiarity with containerized databases (CDB/PDB) and hybrid data architectures
Working knowledge of database installs, restores, and backups
Experience with MongoDB is highly desirable
Some previous exposure to SaaS and cloud-based platforms is a plus
Familiarity with Agile methodology and using Jira for work tracking is a must
Strong communication, documentation, and teamwork skill
Hybrid Columnar Compression (HCC) and Advanced Compression experience is preferred
Experience with MDM, Hadoop, or data governance tooling
Some familiarity with cloud migration strategies and hybrid data ecosystems
Experience with tools like SQL Server Management Studio, Oracle SQL Developer, TOAD, or DBeaver
Key Responsibilities:
Manage and support Oracle, Exadata, SQL Server, and MongoDB environments
Support logical database functions: table creation, user and role provisioning, and schema development
Collaborate with requestors and internal teams to fully understand requests
Monitor and optimize performance (query tuning, long-running queries, memory usage, tablespace, CPU, and I/O)
Identify and resolve issues related to data sprawl, storage limits, and resource contention
Write and maintain Shell scripts for data retention, monitoring, and other automation tasks
Clean up legacy data and implement data governance and retention strategies
Support backup, restore, and installation processes
Maintain and refresh data across environments, move and transform data between systems
Implement table partitioning strategies and compression (HCC/Advanced Compression preferred)
Support containerized database (CDB/PDB) implementations and resource management
Develop and manage security policies for users and roles at both CDB and PDB levels
Contribute to the development of database monitoring tools and alerts
Work in Agile teams using Jira to track work, prioritize requests, and support iterative project delivery
Provide documentation (runbooks, procedures) for all administrative processes
