Senior GitLab Engineer
Location: Dallas, Texas (3 days/week onsite downtown Dallas)
Contract Duration: 12+ months

We are seeking a highly seasoned Sr. GitLab Engineer to serve as the technical lead for a major enterprise DevOps transformation effort. This role will drive the strategic redesign and migration of legacy delivery ecosystems (Jenkins, Automic, Bitbucket, Docker) into a modern, secure, and scalable GitLab and Podman-based automation platform. The ideal candidate is a hands-on expert with deep architectural understanding of GitLab CI/CD, platform engineering, large-scale automation, and modern cloud- and container-first engineering practices.

You will operate as a senior technical authority, partnering closely with engineering leadership and cross-functional teams to define CI/CD standards, implement best-in-class delivery workflows, and ensure enterprise readiness through automation, security, and operational excellence. Our client values engineers who demonstrate ownership, drive outcomes, elevate team capabilities, and deliver high-quality, reliable solutions in fast-paced environments.

Required Skills & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s in Computer Science or related field
  • GitLab Certified CI/CD Specialist or GitLab Administrator (preference for both)
  • Demonstrated contributions to GitLab or other open-source CI/CD/DevOps tooling
  • 10+ years in DevOps, Platform Engineering, or Infrastructure Automation
  • 5+ years of hands-on GitLab CI/CD engineering, including enterprise administration of GitLab Runners, Groups, Projects, and governance
  • Expert-level skills in Bash, Python, or Go scripting for automation tooling
  • Deep experience with Infrastructure-as-Code frameworks (Terraform, Ansible) at scale
  • Strong competency with Docker and Kubernetes, including proven experience migrating workloads and build processes to Podman/Buildah
  • Proficiency with AWS, GCP, or Azure and cloud-native CI/CD integrations
  • Strong background across legacy and modern CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Automic, Bamboo, Maven, Nexus/Artifactory, etc.)
  • Expertise with Git, Git branching strategies, and repository architecture (Bitbucket, Git, SVN)
  • Extensive knowledge of secure CI/CD practices: SAST/DAST, container scanning, compliance automation, image hardening
  • Solid grounding in Agile, GitOps, DevSecOps, and scalable SCM practices
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional leadership skills; proven ability to guide engineering teams through change

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Lead and architect the full-scale migration from Jenkins and Automic to GitLab CI/CD
  • Administer, optimize, and scale GitLab Runners, Projects, Groups, Permissions, and CI/CD governance
  • Harden GitLab for enterprise requirements: LDAP, SAML/SSO, RBAC, secret management, backup/DR
  • Design and implement advanced, secure CI/CD pipelines using GitLab YAML best practices
  • Build complex multi-stage, conditional, dynamic, and parallel workflows
  • Integrate and automate security and code-quality tools (SAST/DAST, dependency scanning, container scanning)
  • Analyze, translate, and rebuild sophisticated legacy Jenkins pipelines into optimized GitLab CI/CD workflows
  • Lead the migration and orchestration of Automic jobs/workflows into GitLab
  • Dramatically improve pipeline speed and reliability using caching, artifact reuse, pipeline templates, and modularization
  • Lead the migration of container build processes from Docker to Podman, ensuring security, compliance, and performance
  • Architect and automate infrastructure provisioning with Terraform and Ansible
  • Apply GitOps patterns to infrastructure and environment management for consistency and observability
  • Drive enterprise enablement through documentation, training, architectural standards, and best practices
  • Monitor GitLab platform health, runner capacity, and pipeline performance using Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex CI/CD, infrastructure automation, or migration issues as the top-level escalation point
