Senior Database Architect
Contract Length: 12+ months
Location:  Remote position in Texas (**Must currently reside in Texas)

Our client, a highly regarded Texas State agency is migrating one of its high-usage transactional system from a legacy platform to newer technologies in the cloud. They are looking for a strong Database/DBA Architect to develop complex database solutions by designing conceptual and logical data models. The Senior Database Architect will configure information systems and analyze structural requirements for new software to ensure a strong migration of data from legacy systems to the cloud.

Required Experience:
  • 7+ years of experience creating and maintaining Data models including 5+ years in SQL Server Enterprise edition
  • Excellent background in development utilizing RDBMS and with MS SQL Server DBMS
  • Experience designing a SQL Server database for high usage/high availability transactional system
  • Strong experience with database tuning techniques
  • Prior experience with migrating legacy databases to cloud preferably AWS
  • Experienced in source to target mapping database documentation
  • Experience working with more than one type of RDBMS (DB2, SQL Server, Oracle) highly preferred
  • Experience with case management or educational systems is a plus

  • Document the currently used “as is” schemas in SQL Server databases and Oracle databases
  • Gather requirements and perform quality assurance testing
  • Document existing downstream impacts of the legacy system
  • Document current database process which extracts the data from the existing system for reporting purposes
  • Analyze source database referential integrity and profile source data
  • Create and document existing data interfaces in the legacy
  • Create data models and reverse and forward engineer data models in an AWS SQL Server environment
  • Define and document the technical architecture of the new transactional system, including the physical components and their functionality
  • Perform other analysis and documentation tasks as required to facilitate and support the migration project
  • Provide oversight and design of the migration and conversion of legacy data to the new database
  • Create scripts for data conversion and migration from legacy systems to the new database platform
